Since I upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite I am not able anymore using my USB Dongle (Usb Modem) ZTE MF667. During the upgrade Yosemite did not show any warning about its incompatibility. Is there a way to make this USB modem work as it did on Mavericks? ZTE and my Mobile operator wont help!
Zte Modem Driver For Mac
Hi Makkusu, I am in Italy too. Unfortunately there's no news abut new driver release. I had a private message from ZTE ITALY in my facebook account. They said that "soon ZTE will fix the KNOWN problem" ... something like that .... but .... have you seen that fix?
You really need to know a little more detail about your device before you can go about updating the software driver for it on your Mac. The ZTE website at _card/index_1.html shows several of their current products that might match what you have. If you can identify which product you have form the information on this site, or perhaps from your System Report (from the Apple menu select 'About this Mac' then click on System Report from the resulting window, then click on USB form the Hardware section, and you might get some useful information there avout your device - make sure of course that it is plugged in first) then you can go about making sure you have the latest software installed for the device. The same website provides software and documentation downloads. I've not checked whether their software downloads include support for Yosemite.
My carrier confirms that ZTE has not released a driver update to support Yosemite. Thi is terrible on ZTE's part because Apple provided developer information months in advance of their launch of 10.10. It seems like we have to wait for ZTE to update their software, which you should be able to find in the connection manager when the USB stick is plugged in.
Normally all hardware company's upgrade their drivers when any new major OS is released. I have written to ZTE help desk and customer support but they are of no help and are not aware of this problem quite surprisingly.
I've been having the same problem with my ZTE MF821D. I've been in contact with ZTE for a couple of weeks and yesterday they sent me a Beta update package for Windows, this however updated the modem to work with Yosemite as well, so if you have a virtual desktop or a PC with windows at home, feel free to update the modem with this file
It works fine on my MBA. What i would do is download the latest version of BT access Manager, this will install the latest drivers on your Mac for this item. The make sure that BT access manager does not start up when you plug in the MF823. The go to network preferences and you will see ZTEUSBModem in the list of devices click on it and set it to show the status into menu bar. Then add you connection telephone number username and password and save. then go to the menu bar and click on the telephone icon that appears and in the drop down click connect ZTEUSBModem and all should be well.
If the driver listed is not the right version or operating system, search our driver archive for the correct version. Enter ZTE MF190 into the search box above and then submit. In the results, choose the best match for your PC and operating system.
Once you have downloaded your new driver, you'll need to install it. In Windows, use a built-in utility called Device Manager, which allows you to see all of the devices recognized by your system, and the drivers associated with them.
Recommendation: If you are inexperienced with updating ZTE USB Modem device drivers, we highly recommend downloading the DriverDoc driver update tool [Download DriverDoc - Product by Solvusoft]. DriverDoc automatically downloads and updates your ZTE driver, ensuring you are installing the correct version for your operating system.
ZTE Corporation USB Modem errors are often caused by viruses of outdated and corrupted device drivers. Device drivers can malfunction without warning, leading to data loss. There is hope for USB Modem users because they can usually solve the problem by updating their device drivers.
It is very difficult to find the respective device driver for ZTE Corporation USB Modem-related hardware because the information and support is hard to find on ZTE Corporation's site. Despite having experience at locating, installing, and manually upgrading ZTE Corporation USB Modem drivers, the task will be time consuming and highly bothersome. An improper driver download can lead to issues with software and harm the functionality of the computer.
To stay updated with all of the essential new features of drivers, we suggest going with a driver updater program. These updaters will ensure that you always have the right drivers for your hardware, and that they are always backed up until you upgrade to the new versions. You are assured that you can rollback to the earlier edition if you encounter some trouble with your driver.
But, if I plug the modem in after the restart(by unplugging and plugging back in), the modem is found. Thus, macOS Big Sur only recognizes the modem if it is (re)connected after a restart.

That brings me onto my next question - why does the '3' dongle keep disconnecting when used on my laptop? The problem is extremely annoying and goes like this: I load up the '3Connect' software and once the USB modem status says 'Ready to connect', I click connect. It works OK and the status says 'Connected' for about a minute then the connection drops out. I go back to '3Connect' and it says 'Ready to connect' so I click connect again and it comes up with an error message that there is a problem connecting and would you like to try again. Clicking OK results in the same message and this error is fatal, in that the only way of connecting again is to reboot the laptop, when I can use it again for a minute before experiencing the same problem. It works fine on my desktop PC, it rarely disconnects and if it does, I can reconnect without having to reboot. I am therefore pretty convinced that it is a problem with the laptop and not the dongle or the mobile phone network these things use (GSM or whatever it is). It is also not a problem with the location, as if I use the laptop in the same room as the PC it won't work.
Both machines have Windows XP, SP2, although both are long overdue a rebuild, which I am dreading as there is so much stuff to load (on the desktop PC at least). I would very much like to ditch Windoze on the laptop as I can survive without Windoze-dependent software on that as long as my desktop still has Windoze. However, will the '3' mobile broadband dongle work with Linux (Ubuntu being my preferred choice)? Has anyone had any experience of using these things with alternative OSs? I don't think the 3Connect propriatery software would work so it would need some kind of generic driver or app.
You do not actually need to use the 3 Connect software on windows (though it does need to be installed in order for the drivers to be available). You can connect/disconnect using windows built-in networking (on Vista, just right click on the network icon and connect to 1.3G, not sure where it is on XP though). I found this rather more convenient than the 3 Connect bloatware. If you're familiar with programming you can use the RAS functions to handle the connection. I have found Three to been very reliable this last year, though I had a lot of problems previously which I put down the the local cell tower being overloaded. You could try moving the laptop to see if you can get a better signal, or try a USB extension cable. Price-wise I'm using their 12GB/12 month package (cost 80 inclusive of dongle) which is very good value for money if you're a light user (I generally browse without images which is easy to toggle on/off on Opera) 2ff7e9595c
